Sometime in 2015 my husband and I decided we wanted to eat at every table service restaurant in EPCOT's World Showcase. Well 2 years later we are still in the hunt for achieving this goal and this past trip decided it was time to try Nine Dragons in the China Pavilion. Nine Dragons does not get a lot of press or reviews and is largely ignored by the foodie crowd. I don't know if this is because most tourists have access to Chinese cuisine at home, but there never seems to be a wait and reservations are easy to come by. All that said, we just were not in a hurry to knock this one off this list. But we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
The location of Nine Dragons is just inside to the left of the Chinese Pavilion entrance. The inside of the restaurant is reminiscent of most decent Chinese restaurants. Everything was nice and clean as can be. We were instantly seated and quickly served our water (we like to reserve our drinking for Italy and France...) The menu was honestly hard to choose from. So many of the options looked delicious but finally we settled on the Spring Rolls and the Steamed Buns for starters. And they were great. I love steamed buns, but so many places can make them gummy. Here they were spot on! The spring rolls were also very tasty. Were they culinarily original and mind blowing? No. But they were very good.
For entrees we had such a hard time choosing! I went with the Beijing Roast Duck Salad because I love duck. Any time I can order duck, Im pretty sure Im going to order it. My husband went for the Typhoon Shelter Shrimp. Both were very good. We had no problems cleaning our plates. The salad was fresh and crisp and the duck was perfectly cooked. My husband's shrimp dish was surprisingly light, but did have a bit too much salt. He still ate every bite! Note the picture below where he had eaten half before I got a picture!
Overall, Nine Dragons doesn't seem to top anyone's favorite lists and its probably not one we will rush to in the near future. That said this is a solid restaurant with a great menu. If you are late to make reservations or just looking for an impromptu seated restaurant, Nine Dragons is a great choice. The restaurant is lovely and the food is good! I'd go back no problem.
